Kibuli vs Namuwongo — Which Speedy Spin Branch is Right for You?

Both Speedy Spin branches run the same price list, the same equipment and the same 48-hour turnaround — but Kibuli and Namuwongo serve different corners of Kampala with slightly different specialities. Here's how to pick.

Ten times a week someone WhatsApps us asking "which branch should I use?" — usually because they're new to the neighbourhood or their office moved. Fair question. Both Speedy Spin branches run the same price list, the same equipment, the same 48-hour standard turnaround. But there are real differences in the surrounding neighbourhoods each one serves, and in a couple of specialities each has developed. Here's the honest comparison.

The quick answer: which one is closest?

Nine times out of ten, the right branch is whichever is closest — because Kampala traffic makes distance the deciding factor. Rough guide:

  • You live or work in Kibuli, Kabalagala, Muyenga, Kansanga or Bunga → Kibuli branch.
  • You live or work in Namuwongo, Nsambya, Bugolobi, or near the Industrial Area → Namuwongo branch.
  • You live somewhere else entirely → either — whichever driver is closer when you WhatsApp us.

Both branches offer free pickup within their own zones, and cross-zone pickups are quoted on request. If your address is on the boundary (Kansanga, Muyenga's lower end, or the Ggaba road corridor) both drivers will happily bid for the job.

What each branch does slightly differently

Same standards, but each branch has grown into a slightly different specialisation as its regulars have shaped the day-to-day mix.

Kibuli — the residential branch

The Kibuli branch is our first, opened on Kibuli Road near the mosque. Its daily rhythm skews residential: families on their weekly laundry cycle, individuals bringing in suits before the working week starts, gomesi and kanzu for the Sunday-into-wedding-season traffic. Because of that mix, the Kibuli team has the most cross-trained hand-pressers on staff — which matters when you're bringing in a wedding gomesi with heavy beadwork or a bespoke silk kanzu.

If you have a formal wear item that's precious — the wedding gomesi, the inherited suit, the vintage kikoi — Kibuli is our default recommendation.

Namuwongo — the contract branch

The Namuwongo branch, on Namuwongo Road opposite the market, opened to serve the eastern suburbs and quickly picked up the contract-cleaning half of the business. Hostels, small hotels, offices with staff uniforms, restaurants with tablecloths and staff aprons — many of them run weekly pickups out of Namuwongo. That means the branch has larger drums, more capacity for bulk work, and the fastest single-day throughput of the two.

If you're a landlord, hostel operator, restaurant, or office manager thinking about a contract, that's Namuwongo's specialism — WhatsApp Zainabu on +256 782 836 668 to price it up.

What's identical at both branches

Everything that matters day-to-day:

  • Prices — a shirt is UGX 10,000, a suit UGX 30,000, a bedsheet UGX 10,000 whether you're in Kibuli or Namuwongo. Full list on the pricing page.
  • Hours — Monday to Saturday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Sunday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Turnaround — 48 hours standard, same-day service on qualifying items dropped by 10am.
  • Payment options — mobile money, card, cash, or WhatsApp payment link.
  • Notification — SMS the moment your order is ready, WhatsApp receipt when payment settles.
  • Insurance — every garment covered up to UGX 500,000 as standard, higher on request.

The awkward question: which is nicer?

We'd never say a bad word about our own branches, so instead we'll let the Instagram photos do the talking. Both are compact, both are clean, both have a queue in the mornings. Kibuli has a slightly quieter waiting area (residential foot traffic), Namuwongo has the market energy right outside the door. Pick your vibe.

The lazy person's answer

Don't visit a branch. WhatsApp us on +256 782 836 668, share your address, and the closer driver comes to you. Whichever branch it turns out to be routes through the same price list, the same equipment and the same team standard. That's what we designed the two-branch system for — one Speedy Spin standard, delivered to your door.

Common questions on this topic.

Kibuli is closer to Kabalagala — the branch sits on Kibuli Road near the mosque, roughly a five-minute drive from Kabalagala junction. Namuwongo is closer to Nsambya, Bugolobi and the Industrial Area. Both branches offer free pickup within their respective neighbourhoods, so the practical difference is small if you're using our driver.
